    A Most Dangerous Time

This is the game that made Tetsuya Nakamura famous. As you have seen from MMP’s Fire in the Sky and A Victory Lost, Nakamura provides a unique insight into military history. MMP is proud to present what is widely considered to be his finest effort. A Most Dangerous Time focuses in on the most dire moment of all Japanese history – 1570-1584. Oda Nobunaga, the most revered figure in Japanese history, fights against all of Japan and the victor will be the ultimate master of all of Japan.

Using a unique system, Nakamura provides a simulation of this period that is one of the most profound ever made. Don't miss this one. It is one of the great game experiences of our hobby.

2-4 players, 4-20 hours playing time.

    A Victory Awaits

Famed Japanese designer Tetsuya Nakamura, who created A Victory Lost, Fire in the Sky, A Most Dangerous Time, and What Price Glory?, returns to the East Front with A Victory Awaits.

Using a lightly modified version of the A Victory Lost system, the game covers Operation Barbarossa from June 22 to mid-September. Game play features the same chit-pull mechanics used in AVL, with 10 one-week turns. Players can play either the full campaign game, or the Army Group North, Army Group Center, or Army Group South scenarios. Each of the scenarios plays on a single map, or play the full campaign game on all three maps!

This design was originally published as a series of three games in Japan: Fierce Fight! Leningrad Blitzkrieg, Fierce Fight! Smolensk Blitzkrieg, and Fierce Fight! Kiev Blitzkrieg. The game also includes rules for multiplayer (four to eight players) and a series of optional rules. The rules have been expertly translated into English, with detailed assistance from the designer.

    Angola

Angola recreates a brief portion of the violent, decades-long Angolan civil war that began in the 1970s with the fall of a colonial power and dragged its bloody way into the 21st century thanks in part to cold war politics. Angola is a multi-player game in which players control the various Soviet- and US-backed factions that vied for control of Angola from 1975 to 1976. Originally released in limited quantities by Ragnar Brothers of the UK, Angola quickly became a rare and highly sought after game of almost cult status. Why? Angola features a number of innovative game systems that keep players guessing, create plenty of tension, and reward the right balance of boldness and caution. MMP is now updating this classic with the fabulous graphics of the IGS line of games and bringing it to a wider audiences.

    Ardennes II

Ardennes II is a Standard Combat Series reissuing of the award-winning game Ardennes from 1993 using the additional research available in the BCS game Last Blitzkrieg. Like its predecessor, it covers the German Wacht am Rhein offensive in December 1944 against the heretofore “quiet front” of the Ardennes Forest.

Despite heavy losses on both the Western and Eastern Fronts, the German Army attempted to re-invigorate its offensive forces using drafts of the elderly, infirm, and very young.   The defending US forces were recovering from the dash across France and using the Ardennes area to give exhausted units a chance to refit and to give their new reinforcements some modest battle-zone experience.

The result went down in history as the Battle of the Bulge.

Overcoming the initial surprise, the US forces put together a series of determined defenses, numerous timely bridge destructions, and the incredible power of their well-supplied artillery to stop the vaunted German Panzer troops nearly dead in their tracks.

Ardennes II covers all this action in turns representing one day of combat and a hex scale of 1 mile per hex. Units are usually reinforced battalions (or smaller). The full campaign game lasts only 16 turns from 16 Dec to 31 Dec 44.

In addition to spotlighting the better OOB and map research first used in Last Blitzkrieg, the game differs from its predecessor by highlighting the unique nature of the artillery on both sides, correcting the original’s “Supply Wagon” supply system, as well as giving units the opportunity to withdraw before an enemy attack. It also cuts back on the amount of chrome rules which the player needed to wade through, and which exaggerated the effects of some marginal forces.

The game continues the SCS tradition of a very clean and easily played Sequence of Play, clear unit interactions, and straight-forward victory determination.

This game is highly recommended for those interested in learning for the first time or teaching the fine hobby of wargaming to beginners.

Ariete: The Battle of Bir el Gubi (TCS)

Ariete is a Tactical Combat Series (TCS) game covering the Italian Ariete Division’s defense of Bir el Gubi, Libya, on November 19, 1941.

The well-equipped yet inexperienced British 22nd Armoured Brigade saw an opportunity to season itself against a supposedly weak Italian formation. At full-strength with 162 brand-new Crusader tanks, the British were eager to emulate the easy victories against the Italian 10th Army the previous winter. What actually ensued was a swirling desert battle between evenly matched opponents.

Ariete covers this entire mobile action in turns representing 30 minutes each and a map scale of 150 meters per hex. Units range from sections to platoons. A minimal amount of special rules bring the Tactical Combat Series to North Africa, highlighting the unique tactical challenge of the desert environment.

    • The Italian player must manage a mobile defense against stronger British armored units until reinforcements arrive in the form of the 132nd Tank Regiment. He must make good use of artillery and AT assets (especially truck-mounted 102mm guns) to bloody the Brits and set them up for an armored counterattack.

    • The Commonwealth player must solve the problem of using an armor-only force to crack defensive positions held by a well-led combined-arms force. The desert environment, with swirling dust clouds and relatively long lines of sight, will not help him in this regard!

    Ariete components:

    • Tactical Combat Series version 4.01 rulebook

    • Ariete game-specific rulebook

    • 12 Scenarios

    • two Tactical Combat Series Charts & Tables

    • one full-color 22" x 34" map

    • 280 counters (see a playtest [not final!] sample here)

    • zip lock bag (*Note: In order to keep production costs down, they are producing Ariete as a bagged game only; there will not be a boxed edition.)

Armies of Oblivion (ASL Module 12)

This printing of Armies of Oblivion will be identical to the previous (2018) printing, but will include an updated set of replacement ASL Rule Book Chapter A rules pages reflecting the current versions of those rules.

ARMIES OF OBLIVION adds the Axis Minors order of battle to the ADVANCED SQUAD LEADER game system. (Note that for this reprint, a preorder number has been assigned, but we expect to print the module as soon as all components are ready, regardless of whether or not that number has been reached.)

Counters note: We are not including in this reprint the German, Russian, British, and Italian counters that we printed in the original ARMIES OF OBLIVION. We printed the corrected counters for prior modules in BEYOND VALOR 3rd Edition and in FOR KING AND COUNTRY, or will include them in the reprint of HOLLOW LEGIONS. The counters for the German Sturmtiger and SdKfz 10/5 came with prior historical modules, and we printed them in HAKKAA PÄÄLLE!, along with all the new Russian (mostly lend-lease) counters. Instead, we are using that space to print new First Fire counters for optional use that indicate which specific weapon(s) have fired, e.g., First Fire-Inherent, First Fire-MG, First Fire-MA, etc. We hope players will find these useful.

ASL Action Pack #13: Oktoberfest XXXII

The ASLOK XXXII pack builds on the success of the ASL Oktoberfest XXX pack, and highlights the design and playtesting talents of Ohio’s finest. Guided by veteran playtesters and tournament directors Bret Hildebran and Bill Hayward, the expert scenario designers Bill Sisler and Pete Shelling bring us eleven scenarios ranging from 1939 Poland to 1945 Hungary, with stops in Ukraine, Russia, New Guinea, Burma, Italy, France, and Belgium along the way. Place names like Vistula, Balta, Luga, Bougainville, Myitkyina, Elba, Caen, Falaise, and Bastogne will all ring a bell. These scenarios will stretch your tactical knowledge and skills, with many different situations (although no night actions—so sad). Some are infantry only, one is armor only (almost), but most feature combined arms. Assault engineers with all their toys are featured, and the King of Battle makes its appearance in the form of offboard artillery in several scenarios. Along with the “typical” Russian, German, and American battles, these scenarios also involve Poles (both 1939 and 1944 versions), British, Japanese, Chinese, the Free French, and the SS (of all different squad types).

The two new boards bring added flexibility to the system and are integral to most of the scenarios. Board 78 is a true wilderness board (no buildings) featuring a brush-covered ridge along its length. Board 79 provides a new river, three to five hexes wide, with a village strung out along both banks. Both highlight the steady skills of Charlie Kibler and are sure to see wide use in future scenario design. With great boards and great scenarios, Action Pack #13 is sure to be a big hit.

Action Pack #13: ASL Oktoberfest XXXII contains:
    • two 8˝ × 22˝ geomorphic mapboards (78, 79)
    • eleven ASL scenarios:
    • AP121 Along the Vistula – 6½ turns, 15 September 1939, Warsaw, Poland

ASL Action Pack #15: Swedish Volunteers

Action Pack #15: Swedish Volunteers is MMP’s production of the original Swedish Volunteers scenario pack by Martin Svärd and Erik Leander. Technically neutral during WWII, Sweden still offered her assistance in the wider defense of her Nordic neighbors through the formation of Frivilligkåren (the Volunteer Corps). Though this corps was demobilized in 1940, Swedish volunteers continued to see action during the German invasion of Norway and later during the Continuation War allied with Finland and Germany against the Soviet Union.

The 16 scenarios in Action Pack #15: Swedish Volunteers include all 14 from the original release, which have been updated using official layout and terminology, and in some cases updated for balance, as well as two additional scenarios, one previously published by Friendly Fire and one brand-new scenario. These cover a variety of actions from the Swedish defense of Märkäjärvi, Finland in 1940 during The Winter War to Swedes united with Norwegian and British forces in Norway during Operation WESERÜBUNG to battles against Soviet forces during the Continuation War of 1941-44.

Swedish Volunteers also features a half-sheet of new counters with Swedish personnel, support weapons, guns, and concealment counters in a new unique color, and six pages of rules containing Scenario Special Rules, designers notes, and the historical background of the force.

Action Pack #15: Swedish Volunteers contains:

    • 120 1/2˝ counters and eight 5/8˝ counters

    • Chapter Z rules (pages Z85-Z90)

ASL Action Pack #17 - Oktoberfest XXXV

The 1st Cavalry Division was formed in 1921 and participated in the famous Louisiana Maneuvers of 1940, where it became obvious that the days of horse-mounted soldiers were numbered. After spending 1942 patrolling the US-Mexico border, the First Team (as it was nicknamed), retired its last horses in February 1943 and shipped out that summer with all four dismounted cavalry regiments: the 5th, 7th, 8th, and 12th. Its first action was invading the Admiralty Islands in February 1944, followed by Leyte and Luzon, where in February 1945 it participated in the bloody battle for Manila (an action being depicted elsewhere). Then almost five years of occupation duty in Japan saw its training deteriorate and its combat capabilities degrade. The 12th Cavalry Regiment was deactivated, and the division was reorganized into the now-standard triangular structure. With the crisis in Korea, they hastily shipped out to the Pusan Perimeter. First Team quickly earned a reputation as second rate but just as quickly re-earned respect while first leading the breakout and then charging into North Korea. Surprised (like everyone else) by the Communist Chinese forces in November 1950, they were thrown back into South Korea with heavy losses. Reversing the momentum, First Team took the fight to the enemy for the rest of 1951, regained some of its swagger, and rotated back to Japan in December after almost 18 months of hard fighting.

These 16 scenarios tell the story of First Team across two different wars, but they describe more than just the combat results. The First Team were fighting men, and these scenarios showcase some of their individual stories. There is plenty of action in this pack, and plenty different kinds of it, more than enough to challenge every level and style of ASL play.

Action Pack #17: ASL Oktoberfest XXXV contains:

    • two 8˝ × 22˝ geomorphic mapboards (87, 88)
    • 16 ASL scenarios:

ASL Action Pack #18 - Oktoberfest XXXVII

This Action Pack marks Multi-Man Publishing’s fifth collaboration with ASL Oktoberfest tournament director Bret Hildebran and his gang of Ohioans to produce a new map-and-scenario pack for release in conjunction with the game’s most revered tournament—ASLOK.

The 14 scenarios of ASL Action Pack #18 were all designed by Ohioans Pete Shelling and the late Bill Sisler. Two new maps (91 & 92) round out the package. World War II actions range from an extreme winter Russian counterattack in front of Moscow in December 1941 to Partisan action in Slovakia to the “final battle” in 1945 Berlin. Pete has also designed four new Korean War scenarios (two on Deluxe boards) featuring actions fought by the American 1st Cavalry Division, its troopers having been “rudely interrupted” from their cushy garrison life in Japan by the outbreak of war in Korea with the Communist invasion of July 1950 and rushed unceremoniously into combat. Action Pack #18: ASL Oktoberfest XXXVII has the action covered!

Action Pack #18: ASL Oktoberfest XXXVII contains:

    • Two 8˝ × 22˝ geomorphic mapboards (91, 92)
    • 14 ASL scenarios:

      • AP192 Brush Off – 4½ turns, 19 August 1942, Koli Point, Guadalcanal (Allied vs Japanese)
      • AP193 Hit It & Quit It – 4½ turns, 26 September 1944, Horné Hámre, Slovakia (German vs Partisan)
